Fortunately, if you want your Amazon Fire tablet to function more like a standard Android device, there is a way to do so. It makes sense from a business perspective, but for the user, this ends up creating a somewhat stifled experience. This puts them at a better position to force you to use Amazon apps for everything.Īt the end of the day, Amazon doesn’t want you to use a competitor, in this case Google, on the device. The online retail giant wants to be the gatekeeper of the device, meaning that you need to go through Amazon to do anything and everything on your Fire device. Amazon wants to lock users into an Amazon-centric experience. There are a few ways to answer this question, but basically it boils down to one thing: control. Why doesn’t Amazon offer stock Android Fire tablets? Once the tool is finished, you will no longer see lockscreen ads on your Fire tablet. On the main menu of the Fire Toolbox, click “Lockscreen Management.” On the next page, click “Remove Lockscreen Ads -> Execute Tool.” When it asks if you really want to proceed, click “OK” and let the tool do its thing. They are color-coded to indicate how safe they are to disable, with green being okay and red being not recommended. Doing so will bring you to a list of apps that you can disable. On the next screen, choose to manually disable certain apps.Click “Manage Amazon Apps” in the main menu.Note that instead of the Fire Toolbox deleting the applications completely, it disables them and hides them from view. Fortunately, you can disable these apps by following the instructions below and using the Fire Toolbox. Manage Preinstalled Amazon AppsĪmazon wants you to use its services over competitors, so the Fire tablet range pushes these apps pretty hard. If you’re happy with the proposed changes, click “Execute Tool.” Let Fire Toolbox do its thing and be sure to read any and all prompts that appear. To install the Google Play Store, click on the button labelled “Google Services.” Doing so will provide a description of what will happen to your Fire tablet. This forces users to install apps from Amazon’s App Store, which has a paltry selection of apps in comparison. This will provide a brief walkthrough on how to use the software.Īs we mentioned above, Fire tablets do not have the Google Play Store. If you haven’t, we would recommend clicking “No, I’m a new user”. It will ask if you have used Fire Toolbox before. Now that you’ve plugged your Fire tablet into your PC, you will see the Fire Toolbox interface. If you are using your personal computer, feel free to put a check in the box labelled “Always allow from this computer.”.This will allow your PC to make changes to your Fire tablet. When the Fire tablet is recognized by the PC, you should see a pop-up on your Fire tablet asking if you want to allow USB debugging.Plug your Amazon Fire tablet into your PC using the USB cable that came with your device. When Fire Toolbox relaunches, it will report the following: “No device was detected. If this happens, simply relaunch Fire Toolbox. Note: some users have reported receiving an error message when applying updates. Additionally, you’ll need a PC running Windows (there is no support for Linux and macOS at the moment, but running Windows inside a virtual machine should work). Any Fire tablet from 2014 to the present is compatible with the method detailed below. First, you’ll need an Amazon Fire tablet. What You’ll Need to Convert Your Fire Tablet into an Android Deviceīefore starting, there are a few things you’ll need. Let’s take a look at how to make this happen. In addition, lock screen ads can be disabled, if necessary. You’ll have greater control over the look and functionality of your device, including getting rid of Amazon bloatware. Furthermore, you’ll able to install any custom launcher to your Fire tablet. This allows you to install any Android app found on the Google Play Store on your Fire tablet, regardless of whether or not that app is available on the Amazon App Store. By using a free software tool, we are installing the Google Play Store on the tablet. What Will Happen to Your Amazon Fire Tablet If You Do This?Įssentially, what we do in the process outlined below is bypass some of the restrictions put in place by Amazon on your Fire tablet. Alternatively, you can opt out of seeing ads on the more expensive model. These are ads that run automatically on the screen of your Fire tablet when it is not in use. The lower cost option (typically around $10-15 cheaper) comes with lock screen ads. When buying an Amazon Fire tablet there are two versions of the same model. Secondly, Amazon Fire tablets are little ad generators that point you to other Amazon products. First, the low cost Fire devices act as a portal to the Amazon ecosystem. The reason Amazon is willing to do this is twofold.

You’ll miss out on silly achievements like surprising Embro during bath time or making a map with 50 different cards. Simply because without them, there’s no compelling reason to play the game after beating it once. But if it had brought over the Steam achievements, even knowing that would mean a lot more work, I truly feel this would be the definitive edition of an already fantastic game. Yes, this version does everything else right. But here’s my problem – without those achievements, Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition just lacks that special sauce. I’m sure that’s a lot of work, especially with the lack of built-in infrastructure on the console. Now, to be fair, most Switch ports do not incorporate Steam achievements. That area is the lack of achievements in the game. And it’s odd to say this since it’s usually not an area I fret over. But now I have to talk about the one glaring oversight that kept the Switch version of the game from being the definitive one, as I’d hoped. I’ve enjoyed spending time talking about all the things this version of Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition does right. And while I just talked about the quality of the audio, it’s worth repeating how big of a deal that is, and how few developers get that transition right for this system. There are no muddiness or texture issues I encountered. It looks like a sketchbook, and that’s how it’s supposed to be. Visually, the game is unchanged from the PC version, but thankfully that’s not a bad thing. You can play with the volume only up a few notches, and clearly hear the sardonic bard mocking your tragedies and lamenting your successes in song. Many Switch games are muted and hard to hear properly unless you turn the volume all the way up. What’s even better, and which truly surprised me, is the quality of the sound while playing portably. In fact, there are little to no unnecessary load times, which is really refreshing. While it’s true some ports to Nintendo Switch are plagued with glitches and slowdown, I have yet to encounter that after spending several hours with Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition on Switch. Just pay attention to what’s on-screen, and you can prepare your strategies with care. What’s perhaps most important is that combat is equally understandable and clear-cut. Maybe not as intuitive as clicking with a mouse, but it works very well. It’s even easier to maneuver around the Guild HUB area, since all you do is press L to switch between options. I know that all sounds complex, but it’s all very clear thanks to an upgraded UI that was made perfectly to accommodate the Nintendo Switch. Pressing + brings up the pause menu, and holding X ends your turn, assuming you can’t play all the cards in your hand (or simply don’t want to). R displays stats for your current Dungeoneer and what they have equipped. Whereas ZR shows your currently acquired Favour and what you can do with it. To see your list of loot obtained, just press ZL. You can switch between your cards and the map with the L button, and pressing A is how you select things. Gambrinous spent a lot of effort making sure that the game was intuitive and easy to pick up and play on Switch. It turns out, I had nothing to be concerned about. Especially when playing the game portably, as I’m wont to do. While you can (and should) play the PC version of the game with just a mouse, I was understandably anxious about how the controls would work on Nintendo Switch. The main focus of this particular review, by contrast, will be discussing how well the game works on Nintendo Switch. If you want a nuanced look at the key game mechanics, just check out my PC review of Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition. Now, since this is a game I’ve covered more than once, I will gloss over the important bits in the name of brevity. So, how did I like the game on my favorite oversized portable? Keep reading this Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition Review to find out! And it’s a not so well hidden factoid that I prefer all my games on Switch, if I can get them there. While the Guild of Dungeoneering has been around since 2015, it’s always been solely on PC. So when I randomly heard on Twitter that it was coming to Switch, I nearly fell over in surprise. It was literally one of the first games that resonated with me when I started gaming on Steam, and I’ve played every update and new version of it. If you follow my writing, it’s probably not a surprise that I’m a big fan of the Guild of Dungeoneering. Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition Review: Switching Things Up Then, use Spotify in the ‘offline mode for 30 seconds before you turn on the data connection on your device. Another trick would be to turn off the data connectivity on your device while you’re inside the app. In such a case, turn off the internet connection on your phone, and then reconnect in order to refresh the network. However, if you are facing connectivity issues, it can cause a bug resulting in Spotify stops playing randomly. Being a music streaming app, it requires stable network connectivity to stream music without a lag. Disable then enable the internet connection on your deviceĪnother common reason that could cause Spotify to keep stopping when in use, is an unstable internet connection. This should make your device function smoothly along with Spotify. Restarting your phone will clear all this, thereby freeing up memory that might have been clogged. One reason this may work is that sometimes there are too many processes running in the background along with numerous apps that we keep switching between during the day. Then choose among the options of either switching off or restarting. To do this, long-press the ‘Power’ button of your phone. When Spotify randomly stops on your device frequently, try switching your phone off and then restarting it. If you are facing any of these issues, look no further…try out the following tips to get the app function smoothly on your device, be it Android or iPhone. You may also notice that sometimes Spotify stops playing when the screen is off. Or else, the app may freeze and Spotify stops playing randomly or returns to the main menu without any notification. This may surface when you receive a notification saying that Spotify has stopped responding, followed by the app crashing and returning to the home screen of your device. With such great popularity, facing an issue that makes Spotify keep stopping frequently is frustrating. Without further ado, let’s get more details. With over 300 million users across the globe, Spotify needs no introduction to most people. The principle of it is to download ad-free Spotify songs with a Spotify Free account. It’s elementary, easy to follow, and 100% working. The method we are going to introduce below is completely different from the ones mentioned above. In this way, you can not only remove ads but also stream Spotify songs offline, play any song you want with unlimited skips, and more. The best and easiest way is to upgrade to Premium. You can browse the music library on Spotify and listen to Spotify songs as normal. The principle of it is to take advantage of the Spotify ad URLs and block ads in your system’s host file. If you want to try this method, it is recommended that you should apply for a new Spotify account to avoid account suspension. The Modd version of Spotify offers some of the features for free like an ad-free music listening experience. The typical representative is StopAd, available on Windows, Mac, Android, and iPhone. It’ll help you filter ads once it’s installed and completed with some required settings. The principle for an ad-blocker is to directly block ads. SpotMute & Mutify are available for Android users and EZBlocker is available for Windows & Mac users. The typical representatives are SpotMute, Mutify, and EZBlocker. You can continue listening to the music after the ads end. The principle for an auto-mute-ads app is to mute the media volume whenever it detects that Spotify is playing an ad. In particular, pictures of popular male celebrities were targeted at women or girls examples include James Dean, Jim Morrison, and Fabio. Male pin-ups (known as beefcake) were less common than their female counterparts throughout the 20th century, but they have existed for the same length of time. Posters of these types of images were mass-produced and became popular starting from the mid-20th century. Such pictures often appear on walls, desks, or calendars. Pin-up images could be cut out of magazines or newspapers, or they could be on a postcard or lithograph. The term was first attested to in English in 1941 even though the practice is documented at least back to the 1890s. The term pin-up may refer to drawings, paintings, and other illustrations as well as photographs. Cheesecake was an American slang word that became a publicly acceptable term for scantily clad, semi-nude, or nude photos of women because pin-up was considered taboo in the early 20th century. These pictures are also sometimes known as cheesecake photos. meant to be " pinned-up" on a wall, which is the basis for the etymology of the phrase. Pin-up models were variously glamour models, fashion models, or actresses whose pictures were intended for informal display, i.e. Betty Grable's famous pin-up photo from 1943Ī pin-up model (known as a pin-up girl for a female and less commonly male pin-up for a male) is a model whose mass-produced pictures see widespread appeal as part of popular culture. On occasion, there might be a large stone carving somewhere around the puzzle, but I have no idea if these have any impact on the puzzle or what their purpose is in the game - one can guess that since they’re usually located near the puzzles, they might have something to do with them. I’m not sure exactly where you’re meant to get the cipher to complete these puzzles. I should also preface that there’s only really one type of puzzle, and it involves rotating stone statues until you get the right combination. For someone who loves and plays puzzle games, these puzzles were really confusing. If you’re not walking through the landscape, you’re completing puzzles. Just like the story, it’s very bare-bones. Because of this, if you’re like me, you’re confused about what the hell is going on and those plot points will have little to no effect on you. How you interpret those moments in the game determines how the game impacts you. Because of this, you aren’t directed to feel one way or another as you work your way through the game passing through the major plot points like (spoiler alert) when the fox dies. One of the most annoying parts of the story is how much you, the player, have to decipher what the hell is going on in the story. Otherwise, there was nothing to tie me to the characters in the game. I’ll be honest, I did get a bit sad seeing my fox friend die in front of me, but that’s only because I hate seeing animals die in games. There are a few major things that happen, such as (spoiler alert) when the fox dies and is later resurrected by the guardian of the Northern Lights. That’s about as much information I can give you, as the story is largely unclear to the player.įor a walking simulator, the narrative is one of the most boring parts of the game. As for your enemy, they’re some “evil” overgrown vines, which I can only assume threatens to corrupt the landscape. After some research (as it’s not clear while playing the game), the game supposedly takes inspiration from pieces of Nordic folklore. You play as a fox and travel around different landscapes of Iceland. Spirit of the North is a single-player 3rd person adventure game that largely operates as a walking simulator with few gameplay mechanics. Sometimes it works, but in the case of this game it doesn’t. Other walking simulators, such as Spirit of the North by developer Infuse Studio, try to focus on both elements. Then you have games like SOMA, which does the opposite and provides a tense experience as you’re exploring its world. Games like The Stanley Parable are perfect walking simulators, as it focuses on telling a fun story rather than building on gameplay mechanics. I also wasn't a huge fan of ET's progression unlock system at the time because I didn't like that someone could join a campaign midway through and be disadvantaged compared to other players. I preferred the RtCW maps personally, as well as the primary game mode (I loved Stop Watch like nothing else, and I wish other objective multiplayer games would adopt it), but I can totally understand why people would prefer ET. RtCW was obviously very similar to ET, but the map types were very different. Hope this might have helped for some and see you online!ĮDIT: Thank you for this! It’s ostensibly the closest to the classic look and feel of Dwarf Fortress, to the point that it’s now included with modern downloads of the title.
